After his virtual absence from almost all promotional events for his forthcoming film Umrao Jaan, actor Abhishek Bachchan more than made up for it at the launch of the coffee table book Making of Umrao Jaan.
Also present were the leading lady Aishwarya Rai and director J P Dutta.
The younger Bachchan talked much about his nawabi apparel in the movie.
“You actually have lots of respect for all the women when they take so much time to dress up. I had to tie a nine yard cloth around my head. They have to tie their six yard saris around their head,” said Abhishek.
How was acting in a period film? ?I didn?t have to do anything. I used to just sit on the gadda and watch these girls dance,” he said.
And he adds that working with J P Dutta has been an experience. “We have been on the journey with J P Dutta films over the last five-six years and we are usually used to saying ?fire? and ?kill?. But in this film, it is sit down, smell the flowers and romance. So that was a bit of a culture shock.”
And what does the leading lady have to say?
?Abhishek has said everything that there is to say, so thank you for making it easy for me!” said Aishwarya.
What with rumours of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan tying the knot, the patience of shutterbugs finally paid off as they got the two in the same frame.
As for the book, written by Monika Asrani, it?s a pictorial journey of the film towards its completion.
Though it?s not for sale, you could browse through the book at any of the Adlabs theatres.
