Living life on his own terms. That’s Ajay Devgan for you. A man of few words, an actor who believes in being a part of a good story than a filmi camp, an artiste who worked in Omkara without having read Othello and the husband who thinks his wife, Kajol, is a great actor but is yet to see Fanaa.
And he doesn’t forget to add, “That’s the way I am.” With the release dates of most of his forthcoming movies nearing, Ajay is a busy man these days. “I have been shooting back to back, that is why I haven’t seen Fanaa yet.”
A man of few words? Well, ask him about his wife Kajol, and even ‘few’ becomes an understatement. “No, I haven’t signed any movie opposite Kajol. When I will, I am sure people will get to know about it.” That’s it. A quiet statement, leaving no room for ifs and buts.
Looking at him, it is hard to believe that it’s been 16 years since he made his first appearance on the silver screen. Remember Ajay’s flamboyant bike stunt in Phool Aur Kaante? Maybe it’s because fame rides easily on his shoulders.
Two National Awards and 70 films… no easy feat, that. But Ajay’s quick to share the credit with the directors. “Things become easy when you have a good director.” Yet, he manages to leave his signature mark on each of his films.
Like he did with Omkara, inspite of not having read a word of Shakespeare’s original work. “No, I haven’t read Othello. When Vishal (Bharadwaj) approached me with the unfinished script, I read the synopsis in English. That’s all!”
But, he feels that anybody would relate to the story of Othello. “After all, the fear of losing something or someone we love makes us all susceptible to insecurity.” So, what does Ajay fear losing? “I am too focused on my work to worry about anything else!” pat comes the reply.
