Breakfast Club, Usual Suspects and Gladiator up for Sequels
Breakfast Club
Emilio Estevez (brother of Charlie Sheen) has signed on to appear in a Breakfast Club sequel, despite missing the 20th Anniversary reunion on MTV last month due to a family emergency.
He played high school sports star Andy Clark in director John Hughes’ 1985 detention tale
But Estevez urges fans of the film not to take his no-show as a sign he’s not interested in a planned sequel.
He says, “It didn’t work out but I love that movie. I wouldn’t deliberately avoid such a situation, it’s just that family called that night - and my kids always come first.
“I felt truly honoured to be involved in the movie. It’s amazing the legacy it’s had.”
He adds, “John’s got an idea for a sequel - mature aged students at college, all doing time again - for some reason or another.
“The twist would be that we’re all the polar opposites of how we were in the original. Judd (Nelson), for instance, would now be the straight-laced one. I’m definitely in. If it happens, I’m there.”
Also, co-star Molly Ringwald will appear in a sequel to 16 Candles.
Usual Suspects
Kevin Spacey is keen to star in a sequel to 1995 hit movie THE USUAL SUSPECTS.
Kevin Spacey is reportedly set to return as crippled con man Roger “Verbal” Kint in a sequel to The Usual Suspects.
The film followed a group of villains who plot revenge after being rounded up by New York police following a robbery.
The 45-year-old star has told Bryan Singer, who directed the original movie that he will return for the sequel and is waiting for Singer’s decision on the project.
The two were overheard by a waitress talking about said project whilst having dinner during the shoot
The actor is currently in Sydney filming his role as Lex Luthor in ‘Superman Returns’, also being directed by Singer.
Kevin Spacey won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance as Kint alongside Gabriel Bryne, Benicio Del Toro and Pete Postlewaite in The Usual Suspects.
Gladiator
Gladiator is being planned without Russell Crowe and co-star Joaquin Phoenix’s
It’s not that Crowe is refusing to come back. His character was dramatically killed off at the end of Gladiator, making it tough for him to be written into a new script.
Crowe won an Oscar for his role as a Roman general who is betrayed by a jealous prince and returns to Rome as a gladiator to seek revenge. Benin-native Hounsou played an African slave who fights alongside him in the Colosseum.
Gladiator 2 is said to take place years after the first film, with the African slave Juba, played by Djimon Hounsou, thought to be a key character.
Speaking in New York to promote his latest film “The Island,” Hounsou said “definitely the desire is to do a sequel” to “Gladiator.” “He said producers were still working on the script and casting decisions.”
“They’re not happy about what they have for now, so they’re still working on it. It’s still in development,” said Hounsou, adding that he expects to reprise his role as Juba. “I would probably be in the centre of it as one of the leads,” he said.
The original “Gladiator,” directed by Ridley Scott and released in 2000, took more than $187 million at the box office in the United States.
Crowe most recently threw a phone at a hotel employee. If convicted of assault, he could face up to seven years in prison.
