Taxi 9 2 11 (which reads as taxi nine to eleven) is for those who also enjoy non-stereotypical and entertaining cinema. This film is produced by Ramesh Sippy of Sholay fame and directed by Milan Luthria (Kachche Dhaage and Deewaar).
This film is eagerly awaited because it features popular Bollywood star John Abraham in the lead role alongside actor par excellence Nana Patekar. Sameera Reddy is the love interest of John in the film and actress Sonali Kulkarni is the female lead opposite Nana.
Raghu (Nana Patekar), an insurance salesperson turned taxi driver and Jai (John Abraham), the son of a wealthy business family, are two strangers living in Mumbai - a city of 20 million people. They are from the opposite ends of the social spectrum. Their paths cross one day when Jai steps into Raghu’s cab. Thus begins a roller-coaster ride.
Jai is on his way to court to claim money which is rightfully his. Soon a simple cab ride kicks off a journey in which things go unexpectedly and spectacularly wrong. The strangers turn into vicious adversaries and end up blaming each other for the state they find themselves in.
But they also see their reflection in each other, which makes them realize that the answer is within them. The film covers a period of 24 hours in the lives of these two people. It takes you to a journey of fun, thrill and suspense which ends in a very interesting climax.
The film will release by UTV in February 2006. It is a fast and funny film of just 110 minutes. The entire film was shot from start-to-finish in just 45 days. There are only two songs which are used more in the background. Music is by Vishal-Shekhar. The film has a very international look, shot by Kartick Vijay - a fresh graduate from the film school in Los Angeles who’s already won an award at the Sundance Film Festival.
