Rang De Basanti takes an exceptional opening at big centers, Family and Jawani Diwani declared flops.

After a stunning opening weekend collections of Rang De Basanti Director Rakeysh Mehra is the man on toes.

‘Rang De Basanti’ had a bumper start in Bombay and the opening was extraordinary almost everywhere on 26th (first day) that is Republic day. But a sharp drop was noticed on 27th (Friday) at many places. As per the official release by the makers, the film has collected Rs. 34.55 crore worldwide in its opening week In the Overseas the movie has collected a superb USD 701, 000 in the US and a good USD 392, 189 in the UK during the first weekend.

‘Rang De Basanti’ took a bumper opening and Aamir Khan starrer is doing brisk business in Big centers like Bombay, Pune and Bangalore. The films collection in Delhi, Gurgaon, Calcutta and Hyderabad has been strong. However, in most parts of the rest of India the business is reportedly below average.

‘Rang De Basanti’ is a very costly film and has also been bought by the distributors at astronomical prices. While the first week shares will be great, it will be the business in the subsequent weeks that will decide whether the movie can be dubbed as a hit.

‘Family - Ties of Blood’ produced by Keshu and A.B. Corp. Ltd. and directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi has been declared flop and a big disappointment of 2006. A Raj Kumar Santoshi film seldom gets such a cold shoulder by audience.

‘Dosti - Friends Forever’ directed and produced by Suneel Darshan was another Akshay Kumar starrer besides Family is holding steady in Hindi belt and losing in other circuits.

Emraan Hashmi, Ceneina Jaitley and Harshita Bhatt starrer ‘Jawani Diwani’ produced by N.R. Pachisia failed to entertain movie viewers. The film is a flop.

Sanjay Dutt and Shahid Kapur starrer Vaah&#33; Life Ho Toh Aisi produced by Sangeeta Ahir couldn’t recreate the magic Shahrukh, Naseer starrer Chamatkaar created in 90’s. Vaah&#33; Life Ho Toh Aisi is at best average to flop proposition for its makers.

Zinda is holding steady at big centers and its fate would clear in coming weeks.
