His son Rohan sippy has just made his mark as a brilliant director with ‘Bluffmaster’ and he (Ramesh Sippy) who gave one of the finest films (Sholay) in the history of Bollywood is making a comeback as a director, after a gap of ten years, but with a bang.
He is bringing his bests - Javed Akhtar and Amitabh Bachchan for his comeback vehicle. “I am bored of production now. I want to return to my roots, to direction. I have lived my life as a director and want to die as one,” says Sippy. “I should make a comeback with a good film before people forget me as a film-maker,” he adds.
He plans to start shooting his yet untitled film by the end of this year and is yet to finalize the cast and the crew. Amitabh will play the lead along with, he hopes, Hema Malini. Sippy also has Jaya Bachchan in mind for another role.
However Sippy clarify that he is not making anything near to Sholay. He is planning to make a family entertainer like he did long ago in ‘Andaaz’ and ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’.
So, why he took such a long break? “I think I really needed this break,” he replies. “There came a time when I was making films simply because I had to make films. I took this break to recharge myself. I think sabbaticals are essential in all creative fields.”
