Actor Boman Irani loves laughter so much that he aspires to die laughing. The Munnabhai MBBS doctor Dean that used laughter therapy to control his anger has certainly come a long way. The actor is now looking forward to go to Goa to complete a schedule of Farhan Akhtar’s produced film Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.
What is your role in the film?
I play the role of Shabana Azmi’s husband. The film has an ensemble cast. It is about 16 couples who are on a bus journey to Goa for their honeymoon. The script is fabulous and it contains a heavy dose of humour. Most importantly, for the first time, I have a leading lady in the film.
The film has made headlines even before the actual shooting has begun with most stars opting out?
These things happen. No star has walked out of the film. For stars like John Abraham and Konkana Sen Sharma dates became a genuine problem.
Besides Honeymoon you will be seen in Homi Adjania's 'Being Cyrus' where you are playing a Parsi character for the first time?
Yes, that is true. Though I am playing the character of a Parsi man which I am familiar with in my personal life, there is a difference. The nuances of the Parsi character that I play are not at all like mine. He walks, sits and eats differently from the way I do. That is what makes the role interesting and intriguing. Hence, though I was stepping into familiar territory, things were different.
Tell us about the film.
Homi has made the film with carefree responsibility. If you noticed, I have used the contrary words ‘carefree’ and ‘responsibility’ together. There is no one word that can define the story. It has a heavy dose of black humour, mystery and a Parsi texture to it.
Is it only comedy you likes doing?
No actor would like to limit himself by doing the same things again. Yes, I have essayed only comedy roles. But, there have been variations in the characters. I certainly enjoy making the audiences laugh. After all, laughter as they say is indeed the best medicine. I want to die laughing too.
