Shah Rukh Khan under consideration for Rajya Sabha nomination?

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan may add another feather to his cap as rumours are that he is under consideration for Rajya Sabha nomination.

Although it is not clear if anybody will be nominated to the Rajya Sabha from the film world in place of the retiring member Lata Mangeshkar , hectic lobbying is on for the induction of SRK.




The exercise to shortlist members for this category has got underway as four nominated members namely Fali Nariman, Cho Ramaswamy, Nanaji Deshmukh and Lata Mangeshkar will be completing their terms this month.

Besides King Khan those under consideration include the names of Dr. Kapila Vatsayan, scientists C.N.R. Rao and M.S. Swaminathan and social activist Ela Bhatt.

Of the names currently being discussed in the political circles, Dr. Vatsayan is emerging as a strong contender given her standing in the field of art and culture and also her proximity to Ms Gandhi and after her Ms Bhatt of the Ahmedabad based NGO, SEWA, was also being tipped for a nomination to the Rajya Sabha.

Act with Shah Rukh Khan in 'Don'

Bollywood fans in Malaysia are agog with excitement as talent scouts are on the lookout for at least 1000 locals to act in new version of Don , which is going to be shot mostly in Malaysia.

So far two Malaysian artistes have been selected to star along side Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra in the remake of the 1978 hit which starred Amitabh Bachchan , Zeenat Aman and Pran .




Malaysian actor Shahruddin Thamby will play a police official in the new movie. The other Malaysian star is former singer Aman Shah, the location manager of Channel Ventures (M) Sdn Bhd Saiful Jabbar said.

Jabbar said more than 1000 extras would be needed for the movie adding that priority would be given to those who could speak fluent Hindi and English. He said Bollywood's Excel Entertainment Ltd and movie director Farhan Akhtar would have the final say on the selection.

The movie, to be shot 80 per cent in Malaysia, will be filmed around the tropical Langkawi Island as well as the towering Petronas towers here and the Jalan Masjid India area, which is the 'little India' of Kuala Lumpur.

Jabbar said at least 1000 persons were needed for one scene, which was to be shot in the Jalan Masjid India area.

A holiday to the hills for Magic Memories with Shahrukh

Hewlett-Packard India has launched the "Ye Lamhe Shahrukh ke Saath / Magic Memories with Shahrukh" road-shows at popular hill stations to promote their Compaq Presario range of desktops and notebooks. The road-shows would be put up for two consecutive weekends at various holiday spots.

Special kiosks will be put up by HP at the most popular hill stations in the country like Kullu Manali, Nainital, Mussourie, Mount Abu, Shimla, Lonavala, Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani, Ooty, Kodaikanal, Gangtok and Darjeeling. Holidayers will not only be able to avail of fabulous offers on the products, but also have their pictures clicked with life sized cut-outs of Shahrukh Khan, which will be printed and framed for free.

According to Nitin Hiranandani , Personal Systems Group - Consumer Sales Manager, HP India "Ye Lamhe Shahrukh ke Saath /Magic Memories with Shahrukh'' is a unique concept which will create a fun experience for families on summer holiday and put the Compaq Presario brand firmly on their radar. Summer vacations are the ideal time for school children to buy PCs,"

He added, "What better way to establish a fun yet relevant connect with target customers from cities than making your brand a part of their holiday memories forever!"

There has been trouble brewing between Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh since last year. The primary reason is Abhishek’s increasing popularity.

Though the two superstars are cordial to each other when they meet, everyone knows that the battle lines have been drawn. Now the Bachchan-Khan war has developed a new twist.

According to an insider, “IIFA, which is scheduled to be held from June 14-17 in Dubai, is suffering because of the animosity between two of the industry’s biggest stars.”

It is rumoured that Shah Rukh decided at the last moment that he didn’t want to grace the event because Amitabh Bachchan is the brand ambassador for the event. Shah Rukh pulling out at the last minute, robs the event of its sparkle, to a large extent.

Reasoning time

But Shah Rukh made sure he had a valid reason to back out of the awards show. He reasoned that the producers of Don, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, planned a shooting schedule at the same time, thereby making his sudden exit seem professional and not petty.

Even the other artistes of Don — Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor — would be needed to shoot from June 15 onwards, which increased the list of absentees at the event.

Desperate measures

With Shah Rukh pulling out at the last moment, the IIFA organisers in desperation approached Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta to perform.

But their dates were lying with Sajid Nadiadwala’s Janeman, whose shooting begins from June 10 to the month-end. But the ever-helpful Sajid was obliging enough to work the shooting around, allowing the trio to perform at the show.

Sajid Nadiadwala was unavailable for comment but an insider from Janeman confirmed the news. “It’s true that Sajid was approached for dates of Salman, Akshay and Preity so that they could perform there. He has given them those dates.”

Date problems

Sabbas Joseph from Wizcraft, however, takes the safe route, “People are reading too much into everything. Like every year, we invite the stars to the event and according to their availability of dates, we ask them to perform. While some stars have rescheduled their dates, others haven’t.

We did invite Shah Rukh, Kareena and Priyanka to the event and ask them to perform but their dates for Don had been fixed a long time ago — before the IIFA dates were announced. Now Akshay, Salman and Preity will be performing. They were shooting for Sajid’s film on those dates, but Sajid has been accommodating enough to release them for a day to come for the event.”

There is also a rumour that SRK’s friends are boycotting the function as well?

“That’s utter rubbish!” says Joseph. Karan Johar will be releasing the music of KANK at IIFA this year and hosting some of our events.”

No rescheduling

Riteish Sidhwani, co-producer of Don, currently in Malaysia, refutes the rumours, “Shah Rukh hasn’t insisted on the dates being rescheduled. We have the dates of the artistes till June 28, which is when the shooting gets complete.

Shah Rukh is not shooting for Don next week in Kuala Lumpur; only Priyanka and Kareena are. I think he is busy with something else in London. We tried our best to accommodate some dates for IIFA, but it didn’t happen.”

It's SFX for SRK!

Shah Rukh Khan likes technology. That's perhaps why he decided to venture into the special effects business, which will operate as an offshoot of his production house Red Chillies.

Farhan Akhtar's 'Don', currently being shot in Malaysia, is the first film which has the special effects done by Red Chillies.

"Shah Rukh is personally involved in the making of 'Don'. The idea of putting up a special effects unit was his idea. 'Don' is a high-tech film, hence it requires special effects," says a source. Khan has earlier produced 'Main Hoon Na' and 'Paheli' under the Red Chillies banner.

If the rumourmongers to be believed, Bollywood King Shah Rukh Khan is starting his political innings soon.
As per latest, Shah Rukh Khan, initially though was reluctant, but as repeated requests came from Congress Supremo Sonia Gandhi, he couldn't said 'no' to her and has agreed to join Congress.
As per rumours, Sonia wants Shah Rukh to tone down actor Amitabh Bachchan, who has a great alliance with Samajwadi Party and its leaders. Shah Rukh, known to be a great admirer of Big B, however of late has not been on good term with Bachchan. Though recently the whole Bachchan family attended a dinner party hosted by Shah Rukh in his Bandra residence, and Bachchan, in a reciprocating gesture, has invited SRK and his family to his house, but as per close source the two stars are apparently at war.
Report says, Shah Rukh is so hurt by Amitabh's constant projection that Abhishek is the next big thing in Bollywood, he even doesn't bother to be pawn in the battle between Sonia Gandhi and Amitabh Bachchan. After all it's the war of bruised egos. Right!
