July 26, 2006 11:59 IST

Bollywood fans in Britain will be able to buy 12-inch dolls immortalising the film industry's leading stars Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra from August 1.

The first four actors will be launched, under the brand name Bollywood Legends, by toy manufacturer and distributor Spin Master Toys UK, along with entrepreneur Shameen Jivraj, who had come up with the concept four years ago. She recently approached Spin Master Toys UK to handle the UK distribution of the dolls.
Shameen has headed the 'Shiny Doll' development team as well as many other well-known children's brands such as Star Wars and Teletubbies.

She says, "I became intrigued by Bollywood a little while ago and was drawn into the movies with their mix of fun, fashion, music and dance. It's such a magical and emotive arena and I wanted to create something that would allow the audiences to be able to take some of that magic home to treasure and enjoy in a unique and new way."

Amazon.uk is already taking orders for the doll. They are each priced at 24.99 pounds. They each weigh less than half a kilogram. Priyanka and Kajol wear saris while Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik sport trendy western outfits.

State security for SRK, Ambanis?
Debasish Panigrahi
Mumbai

THE HOME department is actively considering providing state security to industrialists Mukesh and Anil Ambani, and superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Official sources told HT central intelligence agencies had warned post 11/7 that terrorists might attempt to eliminate or take hostage city icons to make a statement and create panic.
Joint Commissioner (Law and Order) Arup Patnaik confirmed “their security was being reviewed”, but would not provide any details. “If we feel that it (their security) needs to be further beefed up, we will do the needful,” he added.

According to sources, Anil Ambani gave up his official security cover after he resigned from the Rajya Sabha. The police are now planning to reinstate it. Mukesh Ambani is protected by a private security agency; the state security cover, if it comes, will be in addition to it. Shah Rukh is already under official security cover, which could now be ramped up to a higher grade.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan says that his character in the forthcoming film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna is an absolute turnaround from the utopian lover roles he has portrayed so far.

Talking to reporters in Mumbai on Tuesday, SRK said unlike the 'Raj' and 'Rahul' characters he has played in blockbusters like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai respectively, his character "Dev" in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna is cynical and scarce.

But due to director Karan Johar 's conviction, the character will be likeable, SRK said.

"I would not have done this film, if somebody else had been the director," he added.

Speaking about Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, SRK said the movie has a bold theme.

"It is bold not in the sense of sensuality, sexuality or the language used. It deals with the subject of vulnerable relationships with dignity. The focus is on what happens when relationships go haywire," he added.

Speaking about his new venture -a VFX studio started by his production house 'Red Chillis', SRK said the effort is to bring quality into visual effects used in films. "

“We have got a couple of visualisers and operators who are experts in this field and getting good business. The company will take up work for outside producers as well. The special effects of my film Don directed and produced by Farhan Akhtar is done here. The company will also do the special effects of my home production "Om Shanti Om", he informed.

When asked about his co-star Abhishek Bachchan in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, SRK said, "Abhishek is a well-behaved boy. Unfortunately, we do not have many scenes in the film. He is hard working and very funny. We had good time shooting for the film in New York".

To a question on who has been his best co-star so far, SRK replied, "myself in the film Duplicate ".

Which actor wouldn’t like to play the angry and brooding Vijay from the 1975 classic Deewar.

The role of the vitriolic Vijay is one of the best in Amitabh Bachchan ’s acting career. The fans of the movie still remember by heart some of the popular dialogues from the film.

Now that there is a trend of remakes in Bollywood, it is rumoured that the reigning superstar Shah Rukh Khan wants to play Vijay in the movie’s modern-day remake.

Shah Rukh is already enacting the double role played by Bachchan in Don (1978) in the movie’s remake Don by Farhan Akhtar .

It is learnt that SRK has expressed his willingness to produce the Deewar remake to filmmaker Manmohan Shetty who is said to be in talks with Rajiv Rai. It is Rai who owns the rights of the original movie, directed by Yash Chopra .

Although Rai is reluctant to part with the movie’s rights, he does admit being approached by Manmohan Shetty and Shabbir Boxwala for the movie’s remake.

Rai also admits that if the movie is remade, SRK will indeed play Vijay in it.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has come out strongly in support of colas, particularly Pepsi, the brand he endorses.

Addressing a press conference in Mumbai recently, SRK said that he still drinks Pepsi.

"My intention is not to defend the brand I endorse," SRK said.

"But I would like to ask the agency (which tested the soft drinks for pesticides) whether they have analysed how safe is the water we drink or if mother's milk also contains harmful chemicals?"

SRK said he was only doing his job and would stop endorsing Pepsi if the government issued a directive to that effect.

"Neither the people who are pulling down hoardings nor the faces on those hoardings have a right to sit in judgment over what is safe and what is not," SRK said. "The final call will have to be taken by central agencies."

SRK admitted that he still drinks Pepsi despite the controversy and knows many others who do so.

On a lighter note, SRK added, "If Pepsi is banned in India I will go to the US and drink it."
