After the success of 'Hum Tum', Saif looks like a new man. He has sprint in his walk and a gleam in his eyes. He has been taken seriously and he is experimenting with challenging roles.

Last seen Saif was seen sporting thick sideburns for his role in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chatterjee's 'Parineeta'. He has also done an English thriller 'Being Cyrus' which has been directed by Homi Adajania. Saif plays a Parsi in the movie. His character has shades of grey.

Saif will also be seen in Zoya Khans directorial debut - 'Luck By Chance'.

Being Cyrus is the directorial debut of Homi Adajania and Saif Ali Khan's first film in English. Saif is wearing the grey shades (negative role) again after giving a creditable performance in Ek Hasina Thi. Earlier titled Akoori, Being Cyrus is a psychological drama with unusual characterizations. This dark comedy centers around the lives of a Parsi family. The film has been screened in many foreign film festivals and appreciated for its unpredictable plot and well executed drama sequences.

The story of Being Cyrus revolves around a Parsi family - Sethnas, residing in the hills of Panchgani. A retired sculptor Dinshaw (Naseeruddin Shah) heads the family. He lives with his wife Katy (Dimple Kapadia). Other members of the this family comprise of Dinshaw's brother Farokh (Boman Irani), sister-in-law Tina (Simone Singh) and second brother Fardoonjee (Honey Chhaya).

Cyrus (Saif Ali Khan) shows up at the Sethna house in Panchgani and offers to be an assistant to Dinshaw. He spends a year with them and in the process a romance seemingly brews between him and Katy. Other secret activities coincide with this; Cyrus receives some money for an undisclosed reason, and he is shown working on something in a lab setting.

He then arrives at Dinshaw's brother, Faroq's house in a very Parsi locality in Mumbai. Faroq takes care of their father who lives in a room in their Mumbai apartment, and does not treat him too well. Cyrus befriends the father but Faroq loathes his proximity. Katy on the other hand, gets frequent calls from Mumbai, in a parallel unexpected development. Tina, Faroq's wife, befriends a policeman Lovely (Manoj Pahwa), their interactions provide good comic relief.

As the movie proceeds it gains a psychological insight into the family and reveals that everything is not all right with the Sethna family. Not just that, even Cyrus comes across as a bizarre personality. The plot slowly unfurls, revealing morbid and unanticipated sides of many. The movie takes a shocking turn at one juncture.

The story brings out the dark sides of some seemingly ordinary characters, who eventually go to unbelievable lengths to achieve their goals.

I think its just far too brilliant a film from Indian standpoint. Its not that its a path breaking story or its something extraordinary, but the fact is that simple story with strange characters and mysterious happening in ths film. All told in a very very simple slice of life way.

Ankit, I would recommend that every one who loves quality cinema must watch the film.

More so Saif has done a job that no other Indian actor has the guts to do. He is not a begative character in the film but his character is something which is a part of us in more ways than one.

I think he is the only guy who can represent India as an actor in the realm of world cinema (dont read hollywood). Hollywood also produces trashy movies but their marketing hides the nagtive facts about the film. Saif can act in probably a Brazilliant movie becasue of his looks, his style, and his way of intense performance.

he has come of age and so is this film. This film is a new genre in itself from India's stand point.

It is releasing in March this year in India and abroad. Its a must watch. And trust me the sound track of the film (i mean background music only) is so mind blowing that I fell in love with it. This is the best work Salim Sulaiman have ever produced in their life. Better than the work they did for RGV.

Times Of India Group moves into film production

India’s largest media company, The Times of India Group, has moved into film production, backing English language feature Being Cyrus.

Directed and co-written by Homi Adajania, the film is billed as a cross between a psychological drama and a comedy in which a dope smoking retired sculptor, who lives in a secluded Indian hill station, opens his house to a stranger, Cyrus.

The film stars Saif Ali Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia and Honey Chhaya and is edited by Jon Harris (Snatch, Layer Cake).

The film is produced by Miracle Cinefilms and Serendipity Films for the Times of India Group.

Vineet Jain, managing director of The Times Group, commented: “We made this film especially to cater to European, North American, and Japanese audiences and it is in the genre of world cinema on the lines of Amores Perros. The film’s uniqueness lies in the originality of the story that could well have been produced in Spain or Italy, for that matter, even Sicily. And its novelty is the Parsi family backdrop and the distinctive look of the film”
