About the show
Inspired by the British hit of the same name, The Office chronicles the humdrum everyday goings-on in a typical nine-to-five workplace, straight out of the ‘Dilbert’ school of work ethics. With its dry humour, petty office politics and many many little scenarios, which ring too uncomfortably true to life, this is mundanity raised to high art.
The British original broke new ground in situation comedy, winning the prestigious Peabody Award, as well as 2 Golden Globes, 3 BAFTAs and 2 British Comedy Awards amongst others. And its American spin-off seems true to the spirit of the original, with strong themes, ‘real’ characters, clever writing, and inspired casting.
Described as far funnier and way classier than any other equivalent American offering on TV these days, this is definitely a must-watch - for those who love the originality of non-American productions, and for those who’re looking for something familiar, but also a little different.
The series stars accomplished comedian Steve Carrell, who won a Golden Globe Award this year, for his portrayal of slimy boss Michael Scott.
