Sporting a leather jacket, chewing gum in her mouth and loads of ?hey, baby? attitude, Esha Deol, the daughter of Hema Malini and Dharmendra, looks a far cry from the shy debutante of Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche.


Post Dhoom, Esha acquired a ?sexy image? though Ankahee didn?t do much to affirm her acting abilities. She?s still short of that one big role (and film) which will catapult her to the ?actress? league. Although snatches of her ?acting ability? have been seen in films like Yuva and Main Aisa Hi Hoon.


With roles in Meghna Gulzar?s Baat Pakki, a tale of a young married couple, Ram Gopal Varma?s Darling, in which she supposedly plays a ?beautiful ghost?, and a con woman in Anubhav Sinha?s Cash, life is looking beautiful for Deol.
Esha Deol will be next seen in Anubhav Sinha’s Cash and Ram Gopal Verma’s Darling.


We met the actress in Cape Town where she is currently shooting with Ajay Devgan, Zayed Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Shamita Shetty for Cash. The weather is biting cold, but Esha?s smile is warm and her mischievously twinkling eyes say that she wants to settle down in Cape Town. ?I have fallen in love with this city and I don?t mind staying here forever.? In the meanwhile she?s happy playing ?a female Michael Schumacher? in Cash.


“Zayed, Riteish and I have been hired by Ajay to pull off a heist. I play Pooja, a reckless driver. This film has all kinds of action ? there is action on the road, in water, in air, in the mountains, chases, fights, everything. The best part is I got to train at a motor training school where I learnt to spin the wheel, take a 180 degree turn. I have always loved taking to the road at full speed and this role fulfilled my need for speed.?


While on one hand Deol gets to play one of the boys again (after Dhoom and Dus) in Cash, she is also happy playing the coy bride in Gulzar?s honeymoon film, Baat Pakki. ?Fardeen Khan and I were shooting in Ooty and it was a completely different role, with mehndi and chooda on my hands.? Without revealing much about the film, she simply says that working with ?Meghna was good fun?.


We ask her about stories of her playing a beautiful ghost, or was it an ugly ghost, in Varma?s Darling? She just shakes her head and says: ?Well, if Ramu has made me look the way I have in the film, then I?m sure every guy would love to take such a ghost home. All I will say is it?s a tailor-made role for me.?


So what kinds of roles generally come her way? ?After Main Aisa Hi Hoon and Ankahee, it?s the Girl, Interrupted kind of roles that directors come to me with. Maybe they feel I can carry off those complex, disturbed characters. As far as I am concerned, I pick those characters that I feel I will enjoy playing and do justice to. Never say never, is what I believe, so I grab any role that gives me a chance to perform well.?


A faraway look comes into her eyes as she says: ?I haven?t played a dancer in any of my films. Perhaps somebody should cast me as a dancer.? If mama Malini is reading this, maybe she could take note and make that film she was planning with Esha Deol and Rekha, thus fulfilling her daughter?s wish.
